NRW) - IHK Köln - 16 Sep 15 19:00 DESCRIPTION: Starke transatlantische Beziehungen sind in der heutigen Zeit mehr denn je von besonderer Bedeutung. Kooperationen zwischen Europa und den Vereinigten Staaten sind nicht nur wichtig für das alltägliche Gesch äftsleben oder um Wirtschafts- und Sicherheitskrisen zu bewältigen\, son dern auch für eine neue globale Ordnung\, die die zunehmenden fragilen un d schwachen Strukturen\, die nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg entstanden sind\, zu verbessern. Die deutsch-amerikanische Freundschaft ist seit 60 Jahren e iner der Grundpfeiler der transatlantischen Beziehungen. Diese bilaterale Beziehung bedarf allerdings einer Bestandsaufnahme und Diskussion\, was be ide Länder heute verbindet und warum eine weitere enge Zusammenarbeit fü r beide Länder von Vorteil wäre. Gemeinsam mit Botschafter Ischinger lei tete Karen Donfried die "Task Force on the Future of German-American Relat ions" und fasste die Ergebnisse in einem Bericht zusammen\, der im Mai die sen Jahres veröffentlicht wurde. Sie finden diesen im Anhang. Frau Donfri ed freut sich auf die Diskussion mit Ihnen im Rahmen der Otto Wolff-Lectur e.\n\nKaren Donfried ist seit April 2014 Präsidentin des German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF). Davor war sie Special Assistant von Präs ident Obama und Senior Director für Europäische Angelegenheiten im Natio nalen Sicherheitsrat der Vereinigten Staaten. In dieser Position war sie d ie Hauptberaterin des Präsidenten für Europäische Angelegenheiten. Hier leitete sie behördenübergreifend die Entwicklung und Implementierung de r europäischen Richtlinien des Weißen Hauses. Vor dieser Tätigkeit arbe itete Frau Donfried als National Intelligence Officer (NIO) für Europa im National Intelligence Council. Als NIO entwarf und betreute sie Strategie analysen über Europa für politische Entscheidungsträger in den USA. Bei m GMF begann Karen Donfried 2001\, wo sie von 2003 bis 2005 für den Berei ch Europa im Planungsstab des amerikanischen Außenministeriums verantwort lich war. In ihrer zweiten Amtszeit beim GMF arbeitete sie von 2005 bis 20 10 erst als Senior Director of Policy Programs und dann als stellvertreten de Vorsitzende. Frau Donfried ist Mitglied des Council on Foreign Relation s\, stellvertretende Vorsitzende des World Economic Forum’s Global Agend a Council on the United States und Mitglied des Foreign Affairs Advisory B oard von Außenminister John Kerry.\n\nDie Moderation des Abends übernimm t Dr. Christoph von Marshall. Er ist Geschäftsführender Redakteur beim B erliner Tagesspiegel\, für den er von 2005-2013 Büroleiter in Washington DC war. Dr. von Marshall schreibt außerdem für Die ZEIT und ist seit 19 95 als Kolumnist für Cicero und Atlantic Times tätig.\n\nDie Veranstaltu ng findet auf Englisch statt. Cooperation between Europe and the United States is vital not only to manage day-to-day business and economic and security crises\, but also to build a new global order to improve the increasingly fragile and ineffective structures built after World War II. Central to t hat strong transatlantic bond is the relationship between Germany and the United States. These two countries have been steadfast allies for 60 years \, but their bilateral ties would benefit from a reassessment of what bind s them and why continued strong cooperation benefits both sides. Together wit Ambassador Ischinger Ms Donfried co-chaired the "Task Force on the Fut ure of German-American Relations". Their findings were put into a report\, which you find attached. Before assuming this role in April 2014\, Donfried was the special assistant to the President and s enior director for European affairs on the National Security Council at th e White House. In that capacity\, she was the President’s principal advi sor on Europe and led the interagency process on the development and imple mentation of the President’s European policies.
