Very  intensive contact, however, exists with organisations or citizens in  Philadelphia and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the home of numerous  descendants of the emigrants from the Wittgenstein region.<br \/>\nDescendants of emigrants from the Wittgenstein area, e.g. the \u201cThe Church of  Brethren\u201d or the \u201cWomelsdorf Family\u201d, are today \u2013 both singly and in whole  groups &#8211; following in the footsteps of their ancestors.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/..\/images\/vc4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"138\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>\u201cThe Memorial Foundation of the Germanna  \t\tColonies in Virginia\u201d<\/strong>,  an organisation of the descendants of  \t\temigrants from the Siegerland  region, is the first US member of the DAG  \t\tSiWi. There is a steady  exchange with the board of the Germanna  \t\tFoundation.<br \/>\nSteadily increasing numbers of visitors from the Siegerland have already   \t\tattended the Annual Reunion of the Germanna Foundation. It is held  in <strong> \u201cSiegen Forest\u201d <\/strong>near Culpepper \u2013 the location of the  settlement of  \t\tthe first emigrants from the Siegerland, who came to  the New World as  \t\tmuch sought-after experts in the areas of mining and  steel work. In the  \t\tVisitor Center (see left) exhibits from the  Siegerland region are on  \t\tdisplay.<br \/>\nA double-sided leaflet about the emigration of the first  people from the Siegerland and about the Germanna Foundation can be sent upon  request.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting delegations from the Germanna Foundation to the  Siegerland region, which are also \u2018following in the footsteps of their ancestors\u2019,  have been a regular occurrence over the past three years.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"..\/..\/images\/HB-LOGO.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"159\" height=\"60\" \/>One of the DAG Si-Wi\u00b4s partners is the <strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heimatbund-siegerland-wittgenstein.de\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Heimatbund Siegerland-Wittgenstein e. V<\/a>. <\/strong>&#8211; an umbrella  \t\torganisation of clubs for the preservation of local customs and  \t\ttraditions in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. The two organisations  \t\tcooperate in a study group which researches into emigration from the  \t\tSiegerland and Wittgenstein region to the US in the 18th and 19th  \t\tcenturies and which tries to make and maintain contact with the  \t\tdescendants of the emigrants.<br \/>\nEmigration from the Siegerland and Wittgenstein region to  the US is clearly illustrated in a catalogue (128 p.) that was published in 1999  and displayed on the occasion of an exhibition of the same name, taking place in  Siegen\u00b4s Upper Castle, and which was planned and compiled by the History  Department of the University of Siegen. The catalogue is available in our office.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-siegen.de\/\" target=\"_blank\"> <\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"..\/..\/images\/HeadlineLogoUni.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"327\" height=\"72\" \/>The <strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-siegen.de\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Siegen<\/a><\/strong> is a member of the DAG Si-Wi.<br \/>\nThe University of Siegen boasts many international  partnerships involving research and teaching and has about 80 bilateral  agreements with European Universities within the framework of the  SOKRATES-program.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>University of Florida<\/li>\n<li>University of Houston<\/li>\n<li>University of Idaho, Moscow<\/li>\n<li>University of Illinois, Urbana,  \tChampaign<\/li>\n<li>University of Tulsa, Oklahoma.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are also American students who study in Siegen (cf. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaa.uni-siegen.de\/outgoing\/partner\/soliste.htm\">www.aaa.uni-siegen.de\/outgoing\/partner\/soliste.htm<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Linguistics, Literature and Media Studies  offers lectures, seminars and language practice classes with focus on the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>An important partner for the DAG Si-Wi is the<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dagsiwi.de\/images\/us_cons.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"143\" height=\"147\" \/>U.S. Consulate General NRW<br \/>\nPublic Affairs Section<br \/>\nAmerika Haus<br \/>\nApostelkloster 13 \u2013 15<br \/>\n50672 K\u00f6ln<br \/>\nTelefon 0221.209010<br \/>\nTelefax 0221.2l55543<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/duesseldorf.usconsulate.gov\/\"> http:\/\/duesseldorf.usconsulate.gov\/<\/a><br \/>\nA flyer in English informs about the services offered by  the U.S. Consulate NRW and provides other useful tips and links.
